Mapping the Music Industries

The “Mapping the Music Industries” (MMI) research partnership, led by Drs. Miranda Campbell and Cheryl Thompson, Toronto Metropolitan University, is funded by a Partnership Development Grant (PDG) from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Research partners including the City of Toronto, Music Sector; ADVANCE, Canada’s Black Music Collective; Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA); Community Music Schools of Toronto, Regent Park (CMST); AfroWave TO; and Small World Music.

MMI aims to assess, document, and develop strategies to improve the inclusion of Black and racialized individuals in the music industries.

 

Arts-Service Organizations in Canada Map

The interactive “Arts-Service Organizations in Canada” map provides public access to a research snapshot based on information collected in a survey completed by over 100 ASOs across Canada. Access the map here: https://aso-map.massculture.ca/#

This research was funded by a SSHRC Partnership Engage Grant and led by Dr. Campbell in collaboration with Mass Culture.

 

“Self in Response”

“Self in Response” was a 6-week program with 8 youth participants that culminated in an art exhibit at Ryerson University. This program was the final portion of Dr. Campbell’s SSHRC Insight Development grant “Community Youth Arts Programs as Creative Industries Incubators.”
